Welcome to Mypad

MyPad is an award-winning project that gives practical training on independent living to 16 to 24 year olds in Newport. Many young people struggle when living alone for the first time and risk losing their tenancies; MyPad works to prevent this through delivering workshops led by housing officers.

What is MyPad?

MyPad is a pre-tenancy training project for young people in Newport and is recognised by Newport City Council and the city’s biggest social landlords: Newport City Homes; Charter Housing; Melin Homes and Linc-Cymru

It’s a course of group workshops that are a mix of discussion, games and film; all are delivered by housing staff.

You can now earn a free two-credit Agored tenancy skills certificate through MyPad! This can be done while you’re participating in the course – staff will give you full details when you sign up.

You’ll get expert advice on:

  • setting up home and living alone for the first time
  • budgeting
  • some of the legal stuff that you will need to know
  • cooking on a budget
You’ll also visit an empty property so you’ll know what to expect.

Who is it for?

Anyone aged 16 to 24 who is applying for social housing on Newport’s common housing register.

MyPad wants to help young people keep their tenancies by giving them the right information before they move in, so they get the best start.

On completion of the course you’ll get a certificate of achievement, plus a house-warming gift. Did we mention you’ll get breakfast every day too?
